A game app right inside Telegram: the user opens themed boxes with gifts and grows a collection of Telegram gifts and NFTs. Payment with Telegram Stars and TON, transparent odds with a verifiable algorithm, automatic delivery of gifts to a wallet, three bots and an admin panel to manage everything without a developer. We were responsible for the whole product except writing the code. By March 2026 the app had 16,500+ active users, a second game, NFT football, appeared, and the total value of gifts grew to $2.5 million.

Imagine millions of people in Telegram already own Stars and collectible gifts, but have few ways to make collecting them fun. The GiftHunt client wanted an app that opens in one click from a chat and turns growing a collection into a game with clear rules.

He came with an idea, prototypes and a list of hard questions. How to accept payment in Stars and in TON? How to withdraw what has been earned? How to deliver gifts so Telegram does not block the bot? And how to prove to the user that everything is fair?

Our role

We took on everything except writing the code itself:
- product design — scenarios, screens and the box mechanics;
- architecture — how the Mini App, backend, bots, payments and blockchain connect;
- stack selection for the load of a viral Telegram app;
- development control — tracking progress at every stage;
- supervising the development team, who wrote the code to our architecture and spec.

For the client this means one person accountable for the result: they do not have to figure out TON, Telegram limits and payment mechanics themselves.

Problem: a Web3 app in Telegram has many pitfalls

- Two currencies. Stars go through Telegram’s payment system and TON through the blockchain. These are different mechanics for receiving and crediting.
- Gift delivery. Mass sending of messages and transfers is a common reason for Telegram to restrict or block a bot.
- Trust. If users cannot check how a gift is determined, they leave.
- Economy. You need a balance between the Stars coming into the system and those spent, otherwise the project loses money.
- Management. Box contents and odds must change quickly, without a new release.

Task

Launch the first stage of the product:
- sign-in through Telegram and linking a TON wallet;
- six boxes of different levels and the full opening mechanic;
- a profile with a balance and an inventory, where a gift can be kept, sold for Stars or withdrawn to a wallet;
- accepting payments in Stars and TON;
- automatic gift delivery;
- an admin panel to manage boxes, users and the economy.

The spec reserves the next stages for a referral program, player levels and a leaderboard, and new game mechanics.

Solution: a native Mini App and a reliable backend

The interface is built in React and looks like a natural part of Telegram: in light and dark themes, on phone and desktop, in Russian and English. All business logic, money and blockchain work live on a Java server. The user does not see this complexity: they simply open the app and play.

The screens below are interface mockups.

Example: the journey of user Dima (illustrative scenario)

1. Dima opens GiftHunt from the bot. He does not need to register: the app recognizes him by his Telegram account, and the server verifies every request.
2. He connects a Tonkeeper wallet in one tap and signs a one-time message. That is how the system makes sure the wallet is really his and not someone else’s address.
3. Dima tops up his Stars balance through Apple Pay or Google Pay right inside Telegram.
4. He picks a box and sees the list of possible gifts, their value and the chance of each.
5. Dima opens three boxes at once. The server determined the result in advance, and the animation with vibration and sound only displays it nicely. A gift’s rarity shows by color.
6. The gifts go to the inventory. Dima keeps one in the collection, sells the second for Stars and withdraws the third to his wallet.
7. A separate delivery bot sends the gift and says “Your gift has been sent”. The transaction is visible on the blockchain.

How it works

Sign-in through Telegram and wallet linking

The app receives signed user data from Telegram, and the backend verifies it on every request. This way someone else’s account cannot be faked. The wallet connects through TON Connect, and an extra signature of a one-time message cryptographically links the Telegram account and the wallet.

Boxes and transparency

Each box has its own price and set of gifts, plus a daily starter box and a limited exclusive box with a counter of remaining openings. Odds are shown right in the interface. Determining a gift is based on a provably fair algorithm: before opening, the server “seals” the result with a digital fingerprint and shows it to the user, and after opening it reveals the source data. Anyone can recalculate and make sure the result was not swapped. For the business this means audience trust and fewer regulatory risks.

Real-time gift feed

The home screen shows which gifts other users have just received. It is live social proof that gifts are really being delivered.

Profile, inventory and referrals

The profile has a balance, a collection of gifts, a referral link and bonus boxes for top-ups. Any gift can be sold to the system for Stars and spent on new boxes, or withdrawn to a wallet.

Payments in Stars and TON

Stars are accepted through Telegram’s official payments for digital goods. TON payment is a transfer to the project wallet with a unique comment, by which the server automatically recognizes whose payment it is and credits the balance. The project withdraws earned Stars to TON through the official Fragment platform.

Delivering gifts without blocks

This is the most sensitive part, and we split it into three bots: the game bot, the gift delivery bot and the verification bot. If something happens to one, the others keep working. Sending goes through a queue that respects Telegram limits, with automatic retries on errors. Delivery messages are transactional only, with no advertising, so they do not look like spam. The key of the wallet that sends gifts is stored in a protected secrets vault. For high-value gifts, manual issuance by an administrator is provided.

An admin panel to manage on the go

The team searches for users, views their history, adds bonuses manually and blocks violators. Most important, box contents, gift values and odds change in the admin without developers and without a new release. That lets you run seasonal events and balance the economy by data. The panel shows key metrics: active users, retention, conversion to payment and the efficiency of the referral program.

Growth after launch

New game mechanics were included in the spec for later stages from the start. The first of them became NFT football, a second game inside the app. By March 2026 GiftHunt grew to 16,500+ active users, and the total value of gifts to $2.5 million.

Stack

Telegram Mini App on React — an interface inside Telegram, responsive, RU/EN, light and dark theme.

Java — the backend: box logic, payments, gift delivery, an API documented with Swagger.

MongoDB — users, inventory, operation history.

Redis — fast counters, queues and cache.

TON + TON Connect — user wallets, TON payment and NFT transfer.

Telegram Stars — payment through Apple Pay and Google Pay in one click.

Yandex Cloud, Timeweb, Cloudflare — servers, domains and protection.

Security and reliability

- Every request from the app is verified on the server, and all connections are encrypted.
- The project wallet key is not stored in code, and only the delivery service can access it.
- Separate bots isolate risk: a restriction on one does not stop the app.
- The architecture is ready for the influx of users typical of viral Telegram apps.

Project results

- 2 months to launch (3 August — 3 October 2025).
- 3 bots, a Mini App and an admin panel.
- 6 box types, 2 payment currencies, 2 interface languages.
- 16,500+ active users (March 2026).
- 2 games: boxes and NFT football.
- Total value of gifts: $2.5 million.

Planning a Telegram Mini App or a Web3 product?

If you have an idea for an app inside Telegram with payments, wallets or digital collections, describe it in the brief. We will design the product and architecture, choose the stack, oversee development and take the project to launch, so you do not have to figure out TON, Telegram limits and payment mechanics yourself.
